At least 80 people were killed in the US state of Kentucky alone due to tornadoes that struck the central and southern United States, state Governor Andy Beshear announced Sunday.
Beshear confirmed to CNN that “this number will exceed a hundred,” describing the series of hurricanes as “the most deadly” in Kentucky’s history.
This brings the total death toll across the United States to at least 93.
Beshear also noted that the physical damage is extensive and makes rescue efforts a challenge in his state, after hurricanes swept through the area two days ago.
The US Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that rescue efforts are continuing, and there is still hope for finding survivors.
