Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said today, Thursday, that he contracted the Corona virus while traveling to the American capital, Washington.
Joyce, who was fully vaccinated, added in a Facebook post that he was experiencing mild symptoms and decided to get tested, and said he would remain in isolation until he received more advice.
He explained that the rest of the members of the delegation that accompanied him came as a result of their negative tests (i.e., they were not infected).
“I’m very frustrated that I’m going to be locking myself in a room by myself for 10 days, but that’s part of the process,” Joyce told ABC New England.
He joked that being alone in the room worried him more than his injury.
He told the radio station that part of his job involves traveling and meeting with his peers.
“I actually wanted to follow some of these Internet-related tools, try to get better protection laws online, and see where the United States is on this. But that’s how bad things happen.”
It was not immediately clear what type of mutated coronavirus Joyce had.
Prior to his arrival in the United States, Joyce traveled to London and met with senior officials there as part of a 10-day trip to discuss his government’s plans to regulate social media.
Two British government ministers, Justice Minister Dominic Raab and Transport Minister Grant Shapps, were subjected to self-isolation, pending the results of “BCR” tests, after their meeting earlier this week with Joyce.
