Mexico diagnoses the first infection with the “Omicron” mutant

The Deputy Minister of Health of Mexico, Hugo Lopez Gatell, announced that the first case of the “Omicron” mutant was discovered in the country for a citizen who arrived from South Africa.

He wrote on “Twitter”: “The first positive case of the (Omicron) mutant was recorded in Mexico for a 51-year-old man who came from South Africa.”

He added, “The patient suffers from a mild illness and was voluntarily admitted to a private hospital in Mexico City to avoid infection.”

He continued, “The diagnoses indicate that he has recovered from the disease.

The Mexican official indicated that “since November 26, the country has been using a viral surveillance protocol to detect corona in the early stages for those arriving from abroad.”

Gatell described closing the borders or imposing restrictions on people and goods as “useless”.
