The Swiss government announced that it had detected the first possible case of the new Corona mutant “Omicron”, as it tightened restrictions on travelers entering the country, to prevent the arrival of that strain.
The Swiss Federal Office of Public Health said on Twitter late Sunday that the discovered case concerned a person who had returned to Switzerland from South Africa about a week ago.
He added that additional examinations will clarify the situation in the coming days.
Switzerland obligated travelers from 19 countries to submit a negative test upon boarding a plane to it, provided that they enter a ten-day quarantine upon arrival in its territory.
Among the countries included in the list are Australia, Denmark, Britain, the Czech Republic, South Africa and Israel.
