Xi: China will never seek “bullying” and will work with ASEAN countries to eradicate “parasitism”

Chinese President Xi Jinping told leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Monday that Beijing will not stifle its smaller neighbors in the region.

He was quoted by state media as saying that China would never seek hegemony, would not use its size to “bully” smaller countries, and would work with ASEAN to eliminate “parasitism”.

He added that the China-ASEAN summit, which is being held remotely to celebrate its 30th anniversary, will promote peace, stability and development in the region.

He also stated that China and the 10-nation ASEAN have freed themselves from the gloom of the Cold War and have jointly maintained the stability of the region.
