Chinese and Lebanese presidents exchange congratulations

Today, Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged messages of congratulations with his Lebanese counterpart, Michel Aoun, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his telegram, the Chinese president said that bilateral relations have developed steadily since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Lebanon.

He noted that the two countries have consistently enjoyed deepening cooperation in various fields, and have provided each other understanding and support on issues involving their core interests and major concerns.

Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Lebanon relations, and is ready to work with President Aoun to seize the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to consolidate political mutual trust and deepen pragmatic cooperation, stressing that China will continue to provide assistance and support to Lebanon in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and developing its economy.

For his part, Aoun said that during the past fifty years, the two countries had carried out constructive cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and other fields, expressing his country’s thanks to China for its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as its support for it in combating the epidemic. Aoun added that Lebanon cherishes its relationship with China, highly appreciates China’s developmental achievements, and looks forward to continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
