Ethiopian army called on its retired soldiers to return to its ranks

On Friday, the Ethiopian army called on its retired soldiers to return to its ranks in order to repel the advance of Tigray forces, while 9 anti-government factions formed a new alliance to topple the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The new alliance was called the “United Front of the Ethiopian Federal and Confederation Forces”, and includes under its banner the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, which has been battling Abiy’s government for a year in a war that has killed thousands and forced more than two million to flee.

With the expansion of the conflict and the escalation of the threats of Tigray and its allied forces to advance to the capital, Addis Ababa , the Federal Armed Forces appealed to its retired soldiers and veterans to join the army, and set a deadline for registration until November 24, according to official media.

Last week, the government and local authorities asked civilians in the capital to register their weapons and prepare to defend their areas
