Erdogan: Turkey will not open its doors to a new wave of immigration from Afghanistan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed on Sunday that his country is taking all necessary measures to curb a new wave of immigration from Afghanistan and has no intention of opening its doors.

Erdogan said, during a press conference at the conclusion of his participation in the summit of leaders of the member states of the Group of Twenty in Rome, that Turkey does not see at the present time the possibility of a large mass immigration from Afghanistan.

He explained that official figures indicate the presence of about 300,000 Afghan immigrants on Turkish soil, but despite that, there are those who speak as if the number is much greater.

He continued, “We are taking our measures and at this stage we have no intention of opening our doors to such a potentially massive wave of immigration.”
