An American clarification regarding the military operation in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea

A spokesman for the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet said that the fleet’s joint operation with NATO naval forces in the Mediterranean and Black Bahrain is not in response to tension between Russia and NATO partners.

The spokesman added in statements to AlHurra TV that this operation is routine and has been planned for months, in order to maintain peace, prosperity and stability in the region and to ensure freedom of navigation in international waters for all countries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

The spokesman denied that this operation was part of the deterrence maneuvers launched by NATO last Monday, and considered that the work of the Sixth Fleet and NATO forces during this operation under the American command provides the opportunity to train side by side and gives the forces unique flexibility and ability.

The European Command of the US forces announced that the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet, along with the NATO Strike Force and Naval Support, began maneuvers and a military operation on board the USS Mount Whitney in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

The European Command added that the aim of the maneuvers is to ensure security and stability in the region and to confirm NATO’s commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation in international waters. The maneuvers also enhance coordination between allies, which paves the way for future operations and exercises.
