Dozens of Sudanese gathered, Thursday evening, in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York, to support Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who was dismissed by the army, detained and later released.
The demonstrators raised the flags of Sudan with their hands, and demanded “the restoration of democracy”, and called on the international community to take measures to solve the crisis in this country.
“We gathered to protest outside the United Nations building because of a military coup in Sudan. This demonstration is in support of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok… We also call for the release of other politicians,” TASS news agency quoted Abdel Hamid Hassan, one of the participants in the demonstration, as saying.
On Monday, the Sudanese army seized power in Sudan, dismissed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and detained him for a while before releasing him at a later time.
The Military Council in Sudan has been facing internal and international pressures since last Monday, and condemnations of what observers considered a coup against the civilian authority.
