The United States .. Electricity cuts to 600,000 homes

A severe storm lashed the northeastern United States, knocking out power to more than 600,000 homes on Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Massachusetts was the worst affected state, with 466,000 homes losing power at 8:00 am (12:00 GMT), and weather authorities considered the situation “serious” and warned of “high winds” and the storm uprooted many trees.

“We don’t recommend commuting,” said the Boston Meteorological Service, the state’s largest city.

Rhode Island was also hit hard, with 91,000 homes deprived of electricity.

The situation is expected to improve in the evening, according to the US Meteorological Service, which “confirms that the coastal storm will move away from the northeastern United States.”
