“Catch Fauci” took to Twitter under the hashtag #ArrestFauci on Sunday afternoon in response to the multiple controversies surrounding Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Activists on Twitter shared the hashtag calling for the dismissal and arrest of Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in response to reports that hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars were used to subject dogs to severe tests before eventually killing them.
“All animals used in research funded by the National Institutes of Health are protected by laws, regulations, and policies to ensure the smallest number possible and the greatest commitment to their well-being,” the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) said in a statement.
In addition, Fauci was criticized after a National Institutes of Health (NIH) official appeared to confirm that taxpayers had funded gain-of-job research on the coronavirus in a laboratory in Wuhan, China, despite Fauci’s repeated claims that this was not the case.
In July, Republican Senator Rand Paul called on the Justice Department to issue a criminal referral against Fauci for lying to Congress about job-earning research funded by the National Institutes of Health.
In response, the National Institutes of Health said this week that Fauci had been “absolutely honest” during his testimony about job-gain research in Congres
