Astronomers observe a strange slowdown in the Earth’s rotation

Astronomy researchers report that the Earth’s rotation is slowing down despite its acceleration in the past year, without knowing why.

The different rotation of the planet earth a little bit down depending on the movement of the nucleus and the oceans and the atmosphere .

According to a report by the “Live Science” website, which specializes in scientific news , every day consists of 86,400 seconds, and we need a “negative leap second” in the next decade, otherwise the clocks will be out of sync.

When Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC, the official international method for displaying time, is not synchronized by more than 0.4 seconds, our watches require “leap second” adjustment

The last time an adjustment was needed was on New Year’s Eve 2016, when a second was added at 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds.

According to the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, scientists have added a “leap second” every 18 months on average about every 18 months since 1972.

Scientists fear that the Earth could one day become unstable, as the Moon is moving further away from our planet.

The magazine “Earth, Planets and Space” indicated that this phenomenon can cause chaos in every aspect of our lives, as the gravitational rotation of the Earth and the Moon affects the sea, the sun, mammals and plant life, according to the British newspaper, “Daily Star”.
