Russia.. Arrest of 3 members of the “Jehovah’s Witnesses” group

On Friday, a Moscow court sentenced 3 people belonging to a cell belonging to the banned “Jehovah’s Witnesses” group in Russia.

The Saviolovsky Court in Moscow decided to refer two citizens to prison until December 20 on charges of involving citizens in the activities of an extremist religious organization banned in Russia.

The court also ruled that the cell leader, Anatoly Maronov, be held under house arrest until December 20 on charges of “organizing the activities of an extremist group”.

In 2017, the Supreme Court of Russia issued a decision classifying the “Jehovah’s Witnesses” group with its cells as an extremist organization, and the number of its followers in the country until the year 2016 was about 172 thousand people.
