An earthquake measuring 5.1 was detected in Kerman Province, Iran

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook an area near the city of Yazdanshahr in Kerman Province, southeastern Iran, Fars news agency reported on Saturday.

The agency stated that the earthquake occurred at 15:16 local time this afternoon, 15 km from Yazdanshahr, 16 km from the city of Zarand and 20 km from the city of Kyanshahr in Kerman Province, noting that there were no immediate reports of injuries or serious material damage in the area.

Fares stated that the earthquake caused panic among the people, and they took to the streets, in addition to the collapse of some windows and cracks in the walls of old houses.

The agency quoted a director of the Red Crescent in Kerman province as saying that two teams were sent to the earthquake area to assess the extent of possible damage.
