China arrests more than 80,000 suspected internet-related crimes

China’s Ministry of Public Security said police have seized more than 80,000 suspects involved in more than 37,000 Internet-related crime cases, amid a nationwide campaign to regulate cyberspace this year.

The ministry added that more than 4,600 suspects were arrested for illegally collecting, exchanging and reselling personal information for profit, as well as arresting more than 1,400 suspects for participating in extortion crimes using self-media platforms.

In cooperation with the education authorities, the police also shut down 16 websites distributing vulgar material relating to minors.
